If you follow me on social media you've seen me share a few personal projects that I have never shared on the blog. But of course, if you read my blog you've seen hints of my gradual creative evolution into mixed media. Lately I've been incorporating a lot of art products in my papercrafting projects and it's becoming more and more obvious that I am having a serious crush with coloring and mixed media. So for that reason I decided to create a new section on my blog for all my art oriented projects.
This new section will include all of my personal art journaling pages, drawings, and mixed media project ideas with the purpose of inspiring you to let go of whatever holds back your creative freedom. Mixed media has not been easy for me because I am a perfectionist and a fan of neat, symmetric designs but I have been able to conquer a few fears.
To begin I am sharing today one of my girl drawings. This is the fourth face I draw and with this one in particular I wanted to practice on letting go a bit and let the color flow and I love how it turned out. It's the burst of color and the serenity of the clean (barely shaded) face that really makes everything pop.
I used Marie's watercolors, a couple of Prismacolor pencils, a 0.4 black Pentel pen and an Isofit silver oil based maker. I used a lilac Prismacolor to sketch the face on smooth white cardstock, so no I'm not using any special paper this time.
When I shared this on Facebook, many other mixed media enthusiasts said they loved the use of white space and the electric colors contrasting the calm expression on my girl's face. This process was very sponteaneous for me, especially because I was able to paint her immediately after I sketched her and usually that is not the case (because I not always have the time).
I hope you enjoyed this post and that no matter what you craft you find something inspiring and encouraging in what I share. This doesn't mean at all that I will stop sharing papercrafts and cardmaking tutorials, it's just a new little space in my blog that will complement what's already here! Until next time.
