Floral Altered Jar - Craft Hoarders Anonymous GDT

Hello everyone! I'm so excited that this day finally arrived! This month two of my projects will be featured on Gloria Stengel's Craft Hoarders Anonymous blog. I have been invited to join her fabulous, talented team as guest designer starting today with Challenge #13: Let's Cycle...Up-cycle, That Is!

What's this challenge about? Being frugal and going green is what it's all about. Show us how you can up-cycle something using "junk" from your hoard. Most craft hoarders also hoard boxes, tins, packaging, and bits of this and that. Our mantra is, "I can MAKE something with that!" Now is your chance! Up-cycle.

I decided to up-cycle a glass coffee jar. I never throw one away. I love to use them to store fresh oregano from my mom's garden, for example. But this seemed like the perfect opportunity to make something pretty with one of them, for my desk. Here's my altered jar:

1. For this project, I made tons of handmade flowers from leather textured cardstock, sponged them with distress inks in Spun Sugar and Peeled Paint, and also Colorbox pigment ink in Frost White. I used Elmer's glue-all to put them together.

2. The jar's lid was wrapped with 2" lace and 1" soft pink gross grain ribbon. Right where the lace and ribbon's ends meet I added a piece of pleated lace that I decorated with a vintage button, pearls, fused string pearl beads and crystals.*

3. Then I started adding the flowers on top of the lid. There was no need to use any structure, I simple made sure each flower was adhered to the other very well, and tried to add them in a semicircular shape. I can assure you the flowers will stay in their place.*

* I used UHU all purpose adhesive (silicone gel) for steps 2 and 3.

This jar is very practical, and the lid opens and closes easily. I am currently using it to store my vintage buttons as you may notice from the pictures.

I hope you enjoyed this project and simple tutorial! I encourage you to join the challenge this week at Craft Hoarders Anonymous.
The Design Team sponsors this month are Canvas Corp and Altered Pages. One talented participant will receive this Canvas Corp prize, donated by Gloria.

Thanks so much Gloria for letting me share this project with you and your girls!
