Elegant Polka Dots

This week's challenge at Classy Cards 'n Such is Polka Dot Christmas! There is an inspiration photo for you, and the colors from the photo I chose to work with were white, yellow (gold), and copper which appears on the red curtain's polka dots. As always we have a prize from the store for a lucky winner and the classiest participating card will be awarded too!

For today's card I used Spellbinders 2012 Holiday Tree to die cut a window on a piece of White Pearl Linen, which I die cut next with A2 Matting Basics A. Then I dry embossed the white layer with a polka dot embossing folder, similar to Crafts-Too Dots embossing folder.

I also die cut a piece of Precious Metals Craft Foil by Spellbinders in copper with A2 Matting Basics A, and dried embossed it the same way I did with the white layer. I mounted the white piece on top of the craft foil, but not before wrapping a piece of gold cording across them and tying a little bow. I adhered it all to a light brown card base and embellished the card with many Baby Rhinestones - Silver.

I hope you find time to play along our challenge this week. I also motivate you to invite your friends to play along. The more participants, the more chances there are to win a prize from the store!

Dreaming of a White Christmas
gilded & elegant christmas card

I have a confession to make... This year I've been drawn to make white and gold Christmas cards. I can't even think of traditional Christmas colors when I want to make a project! So today's poinsettia card and tutorial translate very well what Christmas is gonna be like this December at home.

White and gold look so elegant together! Since the holidays are all about sparkle too, I used one of my favorite glitter techniques and I'm sharing a quick and easy tutorial with youHERE.

I created the background myself, layering snowflake stamps in different designs, first in a very light beige, then in gold embossing. Afterwards, I dry embossed the stamped mat with a sutile polka dot design and used a brayer to apply light beige paint to the raised pattern.

As for the very layered and beautiful center of the card, I started out with an intricate die cut (see tutorial HERE) and continued building layers, with large snowflake die cuts and finally with a large handmade poinsettia …

Pears & Flowers Step Card

You may know by now that I try to make time to create projects for some of my favorite challenges. I particularly enjoy the challenges back at the Mod Squad Challenge. This week the host is Lee... She is a great host... Love her! She challenged us to use something with a Fruit or Harvest theme... Yes, it's a Fruitful Harvest challenge!

I really wanted to create something special for Lee, so I took my time. Here is my design:

I stamped and heat embossed the flowers and two pears in gold. The first are from Flourishes' Over the Garden Gate stamp set, and the last are from Inky Antics' Holy Spirit's Fruit.

I colored the images with alcohol markers. Next I fuzzy cut and sponged them with a little Distress Ink in Peeled Paint.

I also heat embossed a sentiment from Flourishes' Spring Bouquet stamp set. I die cut the sentiment with Spellbinders French Frills set and sponged it very lightly, also with Peeled Paint Distress Ink. I embellished the label altering anoth…
