HIMCR #149 - Embossing

Hello! It's great to be back with a new challenge post for Hiding in my Craft Room. This time, we're challenged to use embossing on our projects. It can be any kind of embossing: Wet or dry; You can use powder, a folder, a bone folder and Scor-pal, or old school embossing with a stylus and stencil. If you don't have any of these, feel free to use some pre-embossed paper. Our sponsor this week is Laurie (blog owner) and she's giving away some embossing folders to a lucky winner. I use embossing often on my projects, so I can say it is one of my favorite techniques. This time, I decided to go for dry embossing in an unusual way (at least for me).    Materials Flourishes stamps - Flowers for Jan Spectrum Noir markers - Purples Craft Concepts - More Dots embossing folder Memento dye ink - Rich Cocoa Spellbinders: Scalloped Borders One, A2 Matting Basics A Pelikan glitter glue Other generic materials Linen cardstock in white This...

One Layer Wonder

Hello everyone! It's funny how creativity literally has no limits. If you're inspired you will make a card regardless of how much free time you have, or how tired you may be. That is my case today. I have a vintage one layered card to share with you. Oh I really like those, because it lets you spotlight techniques and stamps, and I love to layer stamps... With no further ado, here's my card: Materials Stamps: - Bo Bunny - It is Written - Sweet n' Sassy - Vintage Postcard - Flourishes - Spring Bouquet, Cherry Blossoms Brilliance pigment ink - Tiramisu Memento dye ink - Rich Cocoa Ranger: - Embossing ink - Distress ink in Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Peeled Paint, Vintage Photo, Old Paper Other generic materials Eggshell cardstock in white   I used a m ask for the bouquet and stamped the vintage elements around it.  I colored the bouquet with distress inks, to get an undefined, grungy look.  I distressed the card from left to right, from ...

Let's go green!

Hi everyone! I hope you've had a nice weekend so far... As for me, I actually challenged myself to use green on a card. And I went clean & layered too. It's a bit traumatic to go from vintage to green CAL all of a sudden, I don't recommend it... LOL. But I'm one of those who sets on an idea and goes for it whatever it takes... That sounded drastic! Actually, I'm in a place in my creative life where I need to discover more of what I am capable of, and challenges help me with that. Below is my personal inspiration photo for this card (not that I wasn't inspired by the challenges' photos or color boards too :D)...   Google search So yes, it is a floral card -what a surprise-. LOL. And with no further ado, here's what I came up with: Materials Flourishes stamps - Flowers for Jan Inkadinkado stamps - Floral expressions Memento dye ink - Rich Cocoa Brilliance pigment ink - Coffee Bean Hero Arts Cleardesign Bl...

Vintage Seed Card

Hello! It's with great pleasure that I write this post, because today I'll share with you a card where I use one of my favorite stamp sets out there. And the best of all is, that I was given this set as part of a prize won at Sweet & Sassy Stamps. I had it on my wishlist and I'm so grateful I have it now. Vintage cards are a delight to me, I enjoy making them greatly. And because this set is customizable, I was able to incorporate another of my new favorite stamp sets, one that I fought hard to get: Flourishes' Flowers for Jan. So with no further delay here is my card for today: Materials Sweet & Sassy - Vintage Seed Packet Flourishes - Flowers for Jan Spectrum Noir - PP5, PP3 Faber Castell watercolor pencils - 063, 074 Ranger Distress Inks - Vintage Photo, Worn Lipstick, Old Paper Ranger blender tool Brilliance pigment ink - Graphite Black Memento dye ink - Rich Cocoa Hero Arts Cleardesign Block - Large Letter Praise rotary circle cutter Mer...

Watercolor Spring Blossoms

Hello my friends! After a good sunday rest, today feels to me like the official start of March... I can tell the weather's changing already... We had a lot of rainy, delightful days here, but now the warmth is starting to take over. It's still bearable, so I hope it doesn't end up too hot this year. I have continued to experiment with water coloring, and today I have a beautiful CAS spring card that makes me think of a rose garden. Take a look: Materials Flourishes - Cherry Blossoms Hero Arts - Friends are Treasures Ranger embossing ink Inkadinkado embossing powder in: Linen White, Glam Gold ZAP! heat tool Faber Castell watercolor pencils (032 - Pale Rose, 031 - Salmon) Merletto Artistic brushes (red No. 4) Merletto crystal stickers Other generic materials Hawaii cardstock in white Textured cardstock in salmon I wanted to create an unfinished frame stamping two corners of flowers facing diagonally. Minimalist Floral: Part III

Hello! This is the last card from this mini series of CAS cards. Once I did the first one, I knew I wanted to try a few more alternative designs based on the same minimal style. I sure enjoyed creating them. Today's design is the result of mixing techniques from both previous cards. The image was heat embossed in white. The card was distressed in various tones of pink, but only over the stamped image, creating a contour and blending it towards the center of the card. You can see that I didn't distress the lower right corner, because I wanted to create and unfinished frame. The card base this time is sand, instead of white. So you may find that it has less contrast, but it still ended up nicely balanced. Minimalist Floral: Part II

Hi again! I am so inspired with this style of card making that today and tomorrow I'll be showing you two more alternative ways that you can use a floral stamp to create a background. I wanted to go blue for today's card, to give it a twist. Check it out: Materials Flourishes - Cherry Blossoms Ranger - Embossing Ink, Distress ink in Broken China, blending tool Inkadinkado embossing powder in Clear ZAP! heat tool Memento dye ink in Danube Blue Merletto crystal stickers Imagine Crafts sponge dauber Other generic materials White textured cardstock I blended the inks so that I could get at least 3 tones of blue. I think it's an unexpected color for a floral card, but I like it a lot. Emboss resist will always be a great technique to work with, timeless really. The sentiment stamped on this card signifies something important to keep in mind. You know, life is a big ball of mud you need to know how to roll without getting dirty... The highs and the lows.....

Minimalist Floral

Hello my friends, this is a post that I am enjoying already. Minimal & Floral... It doesn't get better than that! It sounds as good as chocolate to me! Flowers being so luscious and one of my favorite things in this planet and on the other hand a clean & simple style... A match made in heaven!  The card for today was created for two of my favorite challenges: Flourishes and The Card Concept. I was immediately inspired with both challenges, and I adore the fact that I can merge them to showcase this CAS floral card. It seems like this is Flourishes' last Timeless Tuesday Challenge. If it's so, it breaks my heart in tiny pieces. I started my blog a bit ago and was enjoying this challenge so much. I am a fan of Flourishes' stamps and will continue to create cards with them anyways. Nevertheless, I want to sincerely thank the company and it's Design Team for their support, kind comments, inspiration and so many things that will certainly be missed. On a br...

Faux Watercolor Blossoms

Hello! Once again I'm here posting a new little project. I feel inspired this week! This time I have a frame that was created to fit this week's Flourishes and Our Daily Bread challenges. I wanted to stamp and color on vellum (with Spectrum Noir markers), and the result was an image with watercolor effect. This is great! So I layered it over a beige paper and framed it with Spellbinders Timeless Rectangles. The images and sentiment are from Flourishes Cherry Blossom stamp set. This time I colored them in red, because this stamp in particular looks more like a rose, I thought it could work...   This is a lovely vintage detail to keep on one's desk as a reminder or simply as an inspiration piece. Let me know what you think of it. Challenge/ Reto / Desafio

This year I plan to participate in a few challenges. I think it´s a way to motivate yourself to create new and different things, to showcase your creations and to share with many other crafters of the community. This time is  Timeless Tuesday #253  turn, at Flourishes. Best of all is the winner´s prize: All stamp sets of their recent release.  The main rule is to create a shaped card, so for this one I used the larger dies of Spellbinders Gold Labels Four. And to honor Flourishes Stamps I used my beloved Cherry Blossoms Set (I know, I love it...). I used Spectrum Noir markers to color and Ranger´s Distress Ink in Spun Sugar to shadow it a bit, this last one matches the ribbon perfectly.  Hope you like it! Este año pienso participar en algunos retos. Creo que es una manera de motivarse a sĂ mismo a crear cosas nuevas y diferentes, de mostrar mis creaciones y de compartir con muchos otros artesanos de la comunidad. Esta vez es el turno de  T...
